Sami Khan
Sami leads the food and agriculture sector coverage and strategy at British International Investment (BII). BII is the UK Government’s Development Financial Institution (DFI) and world’s oldest impact investor with assets under management of close to $10 billion. The core geographical focus is Africa and the Indian sub-continent. By end of 2022, the geographical coverage will also include select countries in S.E Asia.
BII has pioneered DFI investing in Africa and Asia with over 74 years of successful development work and over 415 cumulative investments in the Food & Agri sector. It is also one of the largest investors in Africa and South Asia.
Sami has over 25 years of diverse experience in the food and agriculture sector in emerging markets in various capacities from supply chain management, private equity investing, advisory work & strategy development, impact investments, agritech consulting and business development.
Prior roles include Director, Food & Agribusiness at Accenture for S.E Asia in Singapore, Director of Food & Agriculture investments at Khazanah (Sovereign Wealth Fund of Malaysia) & Investment Committee member of their Food & Agri VC funds, Operating Partner at Rabo Equity Advisors (pioneering food and agri PE platform in India) and Head of Strategic Advisory & Research, Food & Agribusiness, at Rabobank S.E Asia in Singapore. Prior to that Sami was heading supply chain and international business development for a start-up agribusiness & nutraceuticals company in India with a contract farming base of over 8,000 farmers and a global clientele. He started his career at Citibank Singapore as a Management Associate.
Sami is a Singapore national with an MBA from Babson College and BSBA from Boston College.
